FAQ’s
Where is your shop located?
Easy, our first in-person retail space, is located at 1179 Main Street (Pavilion 5) Blowing Rock, North Carolina 28605. You can park right on Main Street in Downtown Blowing Rock (anywhere near Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church) and you will find us at the end of the walkway of the South Marke Shops, to the left of the church if you’re looking at it from the front. We are the small shop on the left, across from the grilled cheese shop, Say Cheese.
When are you open?
We are open for business Wednesday through Sunday, 11am until 6pm, from May 1-October 31. If you miss us, and see something you like, shoot us an email at katylaneclay@gmail.com to hold a piece for you and pick up at your convenience! If you want to shop off season (November through April), check out our online shop! We are happy to meet you at Easy for local pick-up, or ship a pot straight to your doorstep.
Do you take custom pottery orders?
We occasionally take custom requests on a case by case basis. This mostly depends on how busy we are in our current production of pottery for our shop! If we have the time, and you have something special in mind, we will do our best to make that happen for you. Feel free to email custom requests to katylaneclay@gmail.com. We will get back to you as soon as our hands aren’t covered in mud. Note: depending on the season and the nature of the project, we generally quote a minimum of 8-10 week turnaround on custom orders. Pots take time, so please consider shopping our ready made work if you need something in a pinch!
What is your refund policy?
We do not offer refunds, exchanges, or partial refunds. If you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, please email us at katylaneclay@gmail.com, and we will do our best to understand and make it right. All products are thoroughly inspected and tested for quality prior to releasing them out in the world. We are not responsible for damage to our ceramics and other products as a result of misuse.
What is your return policy on pottery?
All pots and other products are final sale. All pieces are one of a kind and handmade, and many feature intentional marks of the human hand- included but not limited to, glaze drips, “makers marks” (thumb and finger prints indicative of hand glazed wares), or other perceived “imperfections” of glaze and form. We embrace these naturally occurring quirks as a part of the relationship between the maker and the art, rather than defects or flaws, and we hope you do, too.
Is your pottery dishwasher and microwave safe?
Yes, however we recommend hand washing with care to preserve the life of the ceramics. Ceramics do heat up to extreme temperatures in the microwave, so please handle mindfully. A hand towel or oven mitt may be beneficial in the handling of microwaved ceramics to prevent burns and spills!
Do you offer Private Lessons or Workshops?
My partner, Nick Schneider, is currently in the process of building out a community studio here in Blowing Rock, North Carolina! For updates, follow @nicolasshneiderceramics and @katylaneclay. Meanwhile, always feel free to DM either of us on instagram, or email me at katylaneclay@gmail.com, to book a private lesson or small group workshop in one of our private studios.
Is experience required to attend a private lesson?
No experience is required to make pottery! Just an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a desire to have fun trying. Pottery is an art of patience which takes many hours of practice to master, so we do recommend keeping your focus on learning and playing rather than outcomes and expectations.
Can I bring my own clay and glaze?
We provide all the tools, clay, and glaze you need to have a good experience in the studio. There are many different types for many different purposes, so we ask that you let us handle the details. All you need to bring is yourself.
